SOME TOP TYRE TIPS & INFORMATION

Make Sure Your Tyre Pressures Are Correct

All vehicles come with Recommended tyre inflation pressures, and these can normally be be found in the vehicle handbook and/or on a placard mounted on the vehicle. If you can’t find this information somewhere, then you must consult the tyre manufacturer. The correct pressures mentioned relate to the loads and speeds that the vehicle will be used for and it is vital to keep to these if maximum safety, braking, grip, and good tyre life are wanted.

Just so you know, the dangers of prolonged under-inflation is that it causes excessive flexing and thus deterioration of the casing. Rapid wear of the tread shoulders will also occur and the vehicle will consume more fuel.

On the other hand over-inflation results in an uncomfortable ride, as well as a reduced area of contact with the road (with all the dangers that this provides), plus accelerated wear on the tread centre. It also makes the tyre more susceptible to impact damage.

To ensure that your inflation pressures are kept at the right level, they should be checked at least every two weeks and only when the tyre is cold. Always remember to use a reliable and accurate pressure gauge too.

Inspection and maintenance

It is also essential to examine your tyres on a regular basis, removing stones and other objects embedded in the tread. In all cases if the tyre has lumps or bulges you must get it examined by a tyre specialist since these could indicate internal damage. Also always wipe away oil or grease with a suitable diluted detergent.

Check for Legal Tread Depth

Tyre treads are designed to give good grip on wet roads, but even with this in mind, in the wet grip decreases, this being especially the case as the tyre tread pattern wears down or as the depth of water increases.

The legal minimum tread depth in the UK is 1.6mm throughout a continuous band comprising the central three-quarters of the breadth of tread and round the entire outer circumference of the tyre.

Please be aware however, that wet grip deteriorates more rapidly in the second half of its tread life and that wet stopping distances can dramatically lengthen. It is therefore advisable replace tyres well before they reach the legal minimum.

And remember with Mobi Tyre there is NO CALL OUT CHARGE and our highly competitive prices include:-

  • A new valve (to ensure you trouble free motoring)

  • Balancing the tyre (most important for a smooth ride)

  • Fitting (alloy wheels included of course)

  • Casing Disposal (some charge extra for this)

  • VAT
